Product Description Pretilachlor 30.7% EC is a selective pre-emergence herbicide mainly used in paddy crops to control a wide range of annual grasses, sedges and some broad leaf weeds. It belongs to the chemical group of Chloroacetamide and has proven selectivity for transplanted rice. The product is applied before weed germination or just after transplanting of paddy when soil is moist. It helps in keeping the field clean during the critical crop growth stage and avoids competition of weeds with crops. It is recommended by agriculture scientists and is being used in many rice growing countries because of its broad spectrum activity and crop safety. Mode of Action Pretilachlor is absorbed by germinating weed seedlings mainly through coleoptile and mesocotyl. It inhibits cell division in the meristematic tissues and restricts the growth of shoots and roots. By blocking protein and lipid synthesis in the early development stage, the product prevents emergence of weeds from the soil. The selectivity in rice is due to rapid metabolism of the active ingredient in the crop plant while weeds fail to metabolize the molecule and die.
