Chlorpyrifos 20% EC is an emulsifiable concentrate insecticide from the organophosphate group. It is used as foliar spray and soil application for effective management of a wide spectrum of insect pests in crops. It controls chewing as well as sucking insects like stem borer, leaf folder, thrips, aphids, bollworms, termites and white grubs. The formulation is fast acting and gives a quick knockdown effect along with residual activity. It is commonly used in cotton, rice, sugarcane, groundnut, maize, mustard and vegetable crops. Mode of Action Chlorpyrifos acts as an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase enzymes in the nervous system of insects. This enzyme inhibition disturbs normal nerve impulse transmission which results in hyper excitation, paralysis and finally death of the pest. It works both by contact and stomach action and shows fumigant effect in some cases.
