Zyami is a Bio-insecticide that contains Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki. It is specially meant for controlling caterpillar and larval pests. Instead of killing insects by contact, it works only when the larvae eat the treated leaves.
After feeding on the sprayed crop, the larvae stop eating within a short time. Inside their gut, the biological action begins. Their digestive system gets disturbed, they lose appetite, become inactive, and eventually die due to starvation. Because it works through ingestion and is selective in nature, Zyami fits well in IPM programs and residue conscious farming.
How It Works Inside the Pest
When larvae eat leaves sprayed with Zyami, they take in Bt spores along with natural protein crystals. Inside the insect’s stomach, which is alkaline in nature, these crystals dissolve and become active. The insect’s digestive enzymes convert them into active toxins. These toxins attach to the gut lining of the larvae and create tiny openings in the stomach wall.
Once this happens, the digestive system stops functioning properly. Feeding stops first. After that, the larvae gradually die because they can no longer process food.
Target Pests
Zyami is effective against a broad range of larval pests, particularly leaf eating and boring caterpillars, including: Tobacco caterpillar, Corn borer, Stem borer, Fruit borer, Pod borer, Shoot borer, Rice leaf roller, Cotton bollworm, Cotton bridgeworm, Tea Caterpillar, Tea looper, Pine Caterpillars, Spiny moths, and other Lepidopteran larvae.
Dosage
For kitchen gardening: 5 to 10 ml per litre of water
For field crops: 1 to 2 litres per acre
Spray evenly on both sides of the leaves for proper coverage. Since the pest must eat the treated surface, good spray coverage is important. Always apply when small larvae are first noticed in the field.
